The objective of this exercise was to understand the 3D arrangement of mass & void in small buildings - using selected well known modern houses, designed by Indian architects. The process involved: (a) scaling-off the main dimensions of the building, from available drawings; then (b) making preliminary models using soap or foam blocks, which helped us visualise the geometry of its 3D composition; next (c) we had to explore various materials and model making techniques; and finally (d) we had to make scaled-down moulds (using mountboard), into which a specially prepared cement-sand mix was poured, to create 3D concrete sectional profile models of the original houses
